Brain Food Snack Mix Recipe

Feel free to substitute your own favourite items to make a custom blend!

You Will Need:

8 cups of crispy corn and rice cereal or your favourite
¾ cup slivered almonds
¾ cup chopped pecans
¾ cup butter
¾ cup dark corn syrup
1 ½ cups brown sugar
Big Bowl
Roasting Pan or 2 cookie sheets (can be disposable)
2 wooden spoons
(You can also add sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other nuts. Dried fruit and small chocolate candies must be added after it comes out of the oven!)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 250° F (120° C).
  2. Lightly grease the large roasting pan or two cookie sheets.
  3. In a big bowl, mix your cereal choices, almonds and pecans.
  4. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and mix with dark corn syrup and brown sugar. Careful, it’s hot!
  5. Pour the mixture over the cereal and nut mixture.
  6. Stir and shake to coat in the liquid.
  7. Pour the coated mixture into the prepared roasting pan.
  8. Cook for 1 hour, but bring it out to stir it every 15 minutes with the wooden spoons. (Get an adult to help!)
  9. Cool on wax paper, and store in airtight containers.
