I Have to Wear WHAT?

What are the benefits of wearing uniforms for school? What’s bad about it?  You can decide which side you are on as we look at both PROS and CONS!

PRO Supporters Say:

• Students will no longer be singled out for ridicule or bullying based on being able to afford the latest fashions. 

• Personality can shine without other factors clouding the view! 

• Focus can be on schoolwork and not the latest fashions.

• Casual clothing needs are reduced, saving money for families.

• Less stress for students in getting ready each morning.

• Administrators do not have to deal with infringements of dress code, or even establish a policy and don’t have to be the “fashion police” for appropriate clothing.

• More safety on field trips and on school campus, as strangers can easily be identified. 

CON Reminders Include:

• Creativity and freedom of expression are being stifled.

• Conformity is being promoted to create an uninspiring atmosphere. 

• Personality is supported by clothing worn, so communication of your inner self is inhibited.

• Parents feel safety may be compromised in event of disaster, as in a large group it may be difficult to determine which child is which and remove them from harm.

• Judgement based on fashion may not occur, but other issues may be used to cause stress for kids, such as weight, complexion, financial status and more.

• Self-image can be damaged, as school uniforms tend to be unflattering.
